Thoughts on "Coco Before Chanel"

Yesterday I finally got the opportunity to watch the French film "Coco Before Chanel."  Done entirely in French (yes there are subtitles), I found it to be less complicated than the Lifetime channel adaptation that chronicled Coco's life.  Audrey Tautou did a great job capturing the essence of the woman who went through a lot of hardships and broke a lot of boundaries.

Despite the obstacles she faced with male figures in her life and losing the only man she truly loved, Chanel still remained active in her work and went on to become one of the most famous, if not thee most famous, woman within the fashion industry. She made her own trends, opted for black instead of pink, and when women were wearing corsets and heels, she wore mens' pants and riding boots.

 

For anyone who hasn't seen this 2009 film and has a love for fashion, please try and see it.  You will appreciate Coco's (born Gabrielle Chanel) struggle and strength.

Movie Review: "Black Swan"

I finally got to see the much buzzed about movie "Black Swan."  Overall the movie was good, but I was honestly more amazed at how the it was shot, the sets, and the wardrobe.  Every detail was perfectly in place and the acting was just the icing on the cake.  People who haven't seen the film yet may be concerned about the "scary" aspects; and I must say there are some very creepy parts.  But the storyline was beautiful, the outfits (mostly created by Rodarte) were gorgeous, and I think Natalie Portman will be getting a lot of awards for her role as Nina, the good swan gone black. ★★★★☆

Tom Dumont Scores "The Providence Effect"

Guitarist Tom Dumont of No Doubt Fame (farthest to the right) composed and recorded the music score for "The Providence Effect" according to a No Doubt e-mail.

The e-mail goes on to say, "The Providence Effect," a major new theatrical documentary will change the way America thinks about teaching our children. "The September Issue" Trailer

M.I.A. is now a M.O.M. yay

so M.I.A. is supposed to perform at the upcoming Oscars, but according to E! News

M.I.A.'s performance [...] (she's a nominee for her collaboration on "O, Saya") [Slumdog Millionaire] remains up in the air. It was reported earlier today that the rapper gave birth sometime this week after performing at the Grammys this past Sunday on her actual due date.

[...]"she's eager to perform…We've said things like, 'We're willing to have her enter on a large bed. We'll make it as easy for her as we can." (FYI: Sources also tell me the baby is definitely here; M.I.A.'s rep did not comment.)

guess we'll just have to see if she shows up, and if so what craziness she'll be wearing.  knowing her--she'll be there *fingers crossed*

Living: 'The Shining' at the Brooklyn Bridge

Sex and the City dvd launch party

last night the gals reunited for the SATC dvd release. it was held at the New York Public Library (ironic Carrie wise right?). there was one question that kept brewing in the air. that question was, "will there be a sequel?". Mario Cantone, Charlotte's gay bff, said there's a "90%" chance. that answer mixed with everyone else's Hollywood response of saying everything but "no" pretty much indicates that the foursome will be stomping the NYC streets again. the dvd comes out next tuesday.

Chanel x Lifetime pt2

ok so i watched the Coco Chanel movie and here are my thoughts: i truly enjoyed the love story between Coco and Boy. i enjoyed the actress, Barbora Bobulova, who played the younger aged Coco (pictured right). as for Shirley Maclaine--major WTF. she didn't even have an ounce of an accent and that turned me off dearly. they did a good job of showing who the designer was and how she obtained her name and place in fashion. but again, Maclaine's part in the movie as the older Mademoiselle Chanel was disappointing. i feel as though her face on the US posters was publicized just because of her name. Bobulova however deserves all of the applaudissements.

"wackness" movie trailer pt.2

this weekend was all about the blog-stresses; i met up with my classmate/friend Frances on sunday in Times Square so we could catch "The Wackness" movie. we linked up at the Hello Kitty Store (yes i get my Tokidoki pen, stationary, AND free Sanrio bag). the movie was really cool. the music used just brought you back to 1994. there's some NaS in there and a lot of Biggie Smalls. the plot line was simple, yet understandable. it covered relationships between parents, marriages, friends, and the ages. i must say the only con of the whole movie was Method Man's weak Jamaican accent. there was also a lot of weed action going on in the film. at one point i looked over to Frances and said, "This movie is so realistic, I can smell the weed. No wait... people are smoking in here." but i honestly did get so caught up i forgot i was in a theater. so if you can, check it out. it's very chill and you'll have "mad love" for it lol.

ps. someone ratted on the pot smokers and they were escorted out. "TIME TO GO!!!"

i want to see 'Wanted' pt.2

on saturday bubblegum pony*s creator Jewels and myself met up for some movie/mall action at Menlo Park in Edison, NJ. we saw "Wanted" and we were pretty mixed about it. i enjoyed the action and Fox's (Angelina Jolie) leather garb. although 85% of that stuff couldn't happen in real life--it's a movie. the movie did have some good visual effects (ie. the grocery store signs and the curved bullet in the end). but i absolutely HATED the scene with the rats. gross!!! and if you saw the movie then you wouldn't believe how horrified i was when i came home and saw a new jar of peanut butter in my kitchen lol.
