Sewing Diaries: Playing Around on the First Day
Here is my new little sewing machine. It's a Michley Lil' Sew & Sew LSS-505 Combo Mini Sewing Machine. I am in the beginning stages, so last night I decided to play around and see what I could create. I tried to make a heart shaped push pin cushion that I could wear as a convenient ring. As you can see, the thought was there, but the execution--not so much. And I also made a little "sweetheart pouch" to hold scraps in. The sewing machine came with electronic scissors, so I tested them out on the pouch and was able to cut a cute sweetheart opening.
Last night I was watching numerous YouTube clips on how to make simple skirts and totes, so be on the lookout to see what I'll be creating. And if you have any books or sites that you think will be helpful, feel free to mention them in the comments section. Thanks!

Groom Your Kitty With Whisker City
As the seasons change, so do cats' fur. My Mimi is shedding her winter coat, so to keep her as groomed as possible I use these great Grooming Gloves by Whisker City ($4.99). Mimi isn't a fan of brushes or combs, but she loooves to be caressed. With these gloves, she gets all the caressing she wants, and at the same time, her dead hair is easily removed.
Another product from Whisker City that I use is the Guillotine Nail Clipper ($8.99). I don't use them often because I'm honestly afraid of cutting my cat's nails incorrectly. But when I took her to the veterinarian, he advised that these clippers are better than the scissors styles that are usually sold.
Whisker City products can be purchased at Petsmart.

Fancy Feast Cat Food Commercial--The Engagement
I rarely pay attention to commercials, but as a cat owner, I'm drawn to anything that caters to felines on TV. Over the weekend I saw this Fancy Feast commercial and totally fell in love. For a quick second I almost wanted to trade in my calico for the cute white and fluffy kitten--BUT I totally love my Mimi and wouldn't trade her for anything. But this commercial is so sweet and I hope that my future fiance will be just as creative when it comes time to propose. And let's not forget, this commercial is about cat food.
Classic Music Downloads
Last night I came across a VH1 show that was listing the top 100 Greatest Artists in music. I caught the last hour (which showcased the creme de la creme ) and felt the need to download some great music. Here's a list of the new albums that have joined my iTunes.

Get Smooth Skin with Boots' Jasmine & Cocoa Body Scrub
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very kind to my skin during the winter season. I'd rather have a few extra minutes of sleep than take the time to moisturize. But with the warmer season approaching (sometime soon hopefully) it's time to get ready for short skirts and sleeves. So earlier this week I brought out my secret weapon, Boots' Hawaiin Island Jasmine & Cocoa Body Scrub. Available at Target for $9.99, you will not regret this purchase. It has a light floral and buttery scent that makes you want to use the whole tub. And if you want to keep the fragrance going all day, you can also purchase the body wash and body butter. And keep in mind that the Boots brand isn't new to the block. I came across Boots in England a few years ago where it's been a relevant beauty brand for decades--so it's definitely a brand that you can trust.

Events: Lenny Harold Album Listening Party in NYC
Sunday evening, at the Higline Ballroom in NYC, people gathered to hear the sounds of up and coming artist Lenny Harold. Formally known as Chanj, the singer became a hit when he appeared on the "Apollo" and belted out Floetry's ballad "Say Yes." As the New Jersey native mentioned during his set this past weeked, he dropped the name Chanj so he could move on to create music that was original and not become lost in the mix of R&B male vocalists that are out today.
And with his album "The Journal of Wonders (Tale of the phoenix in the moon labyrinth)," he is becoming exactly who he wants to be. The album takes you through the ups and downs of love with a ride that is filled with magic and soul. And starting today you can download his album, but in celebration of his release, you can grab it for free--but only for today.
The party also featured music by other artists, including Olamide Faison. Known for his acting role on "Sesame Street," being a member of the boy group Imajin, and also being the younger brother of actor Donald, the artist performed a few lovely acoustic songs. My favorite from his set was "I Don't Know You," a song about a relationship that has hit rock bottom and one of the participating partners doesn't see the love in the other like they used to.
You can check out Lenny performing "There It Is" and "It's Not OK" on my YouTube channel, along with a snippet of Olamide's "I Don't Know You" as well.
I guarantee that you will fall in love.

Deal: Mi & You Can Help Japan Through Eyes Lips Face
Ramona Report: Vol. 1
Hi everyone, sorry I've been missing in action for about a week. I received another freelance opportunity last week, and that kept me pretty busy. During my week's work I got to help with getting things together for an upcoming magazine cover (with a female TV personality) and beauty story (featuring a rocking red hot female front woman).
I also had a couple of sightings while being out and about. The first one was Erin Kaplan from "The City." She was known for always butting heads with Olivia Palermo at Elle magazine. I rode in an elevator with her in a building that caters to other magazines... but not Elle. So I'm not sure if she was freelancing or has moved on to another publication. But in person, she's very petite and cute; she was wearing pants and a cardigan (both in black) with an orange top.
.
My second sighting, later on that same day, was of SPIN-distry CEO and Kim Kardashian bff Jonathan Cheban. He was walking along 34th street by Macy's in Herald Square. He looked super casual in jeans and was strolling along solo.
But now I'm back and will keep giving you guys and gals the goods. Best--Rxx

Cover Girl: Kim Kardashian on SELF
Check out the April 2011 issue of SELF magazine with Kim K looking dewy and fresh on the cover. Inside she shares some motivational tips that help her maintain her outer and inner best self.
When my internship was coming to an end in December, this issue was in its baby stage and when I heard that the reality star was going to grace the cover, I knew instantly that it would be a hot issue. But for the May issue (I saw the cover today btw) there is something that I cannot wait to share with all of you. But for now, grab the newest issue, and if you didn't yet, try to grab the March issue with actress Minka Kelly.
Rihanna Inspired Nails From "What's My Name?" Video
When it comes to Rihanna's style, I must say the girl can't be beat. In the video for her second single off of the "Loud" album I highly adored the cool shades of blue that were used in the styling and to also set the mood in certain scenes. However, my favorite thing about the video was her blue nail polish which was a mix of baby and robin's egg blue.
To capture the look, but with my own twist, I used three different colors to grab the essence of the pop star's nails. The colors (seen above) used were Brucci in Kathy's Baby Blues, Wet n Wild in Rain Check, and on the ring fingers, N.Y.C. in Starry Silver Glitter.

ooh vs. eww: Michael Jackson's "Hollywood Tonight" Video
Ok, I'm going to state everything that I enjoy about this video/song first. I love the concept, I love the dancing (especially the dance sequence towards the end). I also enjoy the song--but-- I don't enjoy the fact that in my heart of hearts I can't fully put my faith into believe that it's Michael's voice singing on this track. I own 95% of his work and that also includes albums from the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons. I could be several feet away and pick-up on his voice. But on this song I don't hear it at all. I even tried to tell myself that maybe his vocals were altered a bit to make him sound more edgy, but I still can't fool myself.
So take a listen to the song and vote for yourself: ooh la la or eww la la.

Macy's Set to Collaborate With Matthew Williamson
The mega department store has some tricks up its sleeves. Macy's will be releasing a collaborative line with designer Matthew Williamson (once the Creative Director of Emilio Pucci) in an effort to attract "younger" buyers and "project a hipper image." Williamson is no stranger to mass produced collaborations--he also released a guest designer line for H&M in 2009.

The word is that she was very polite and courteous with everyone while she was there. Allen, who was the face of a handbag campaign for the brand (note picture above) stated that she was at the studios to, "see Karl for my wedding dress." It will be excited to see what the head of Chanel creates for her.

Bethenny Frankel Reveals New Shape-Wear Collection
Frankel's Skinnygirl brand is expanding. Not only does the married mogul mom have her own cocktail, New York Times bestsellers, a reality show and detox cleansers, but now she will be releasing a line of shape-wear for women. WWD reports that, "the shapewear line has four groups: The Skinny and Secret Service, which feature sleek, seamless-looking camis, tanks, half-slips, high-waisted briefs and leggings; and Glamouflage and Show, Don’t Tell, which highlight lace and lace detailing."
In an interview with WWD, Frankel shares her favorite pieces from her new collection. "A playful item [control briefs] with a pad to make your butt look better.…I was holding my butt out so my husband could notice, and he said, “Oh, you look juicy”…and The Skinny, a pencil skirt that goes all the way up under your boobs to smooth all your lines. My favorites are the lace lingerie-looking bodysuit or camisole by Glamouflage.…I like items that look like comfortable underwear but look sexy like from Show, Don’t Tell that look like something sexy that Marilyn Monroe or Betty Boop would wear."
Items will be sold on Skinngirlshapers.com and QVC with prices ranging form $20-$40.
