Starring Nicole Kidman, this movie tells the tale of a married couple who are trying to live their lives as they mourn the loss of their young son. Aaron Eckhart plays her husband, and while they struggle together, they never seem to be on the same page: he wants them to join a therapy group together, but she'd rather stay at home, she wants to sell their house, but he'd rather hold on to the memories. All the while, Kidman's sister becomes pregnant and she has to find a way to deal with the new family addition.
Kidman also develops a friendship with the person who took her son's life and seems to share more intimate moments with him than with her own husband, which then causes a stir in her marriage.
This movie has real moments that can easily break the hearts of parents and non-parents alike. Kidman does a fabulous job in the film and shows a wide range of emotions.
In an interview, she said that she had tried to get the ball rolling on the film for some time, but then backed away once she became pregnant with her daughter Sunday Rose because she didn't want her character's life to in any way jinx her own. Thankfully she went back to the film and the rest is history. ★★★★☆
